A zero-player system of 3 connected biomes that spawn creatures and food.

Pick some starting parameters (or use the defaults), hit Start, then just watch!

Parameters

  • Resources: Material for spawning monsters and food.
  • Decomposition Rate: Rate to consume dead monsters and waste for conversion to resources.
  • Max Saturation: Max amount of decomposed material that can be held for conversion.
  • Conversion Rate: Rate to convert decomposed material to resources.
  • Major Spawn: The monster or food the biome will spawn a large number of.
  • Minor Spawns: Monsters or food the biome will spawn a small number of.

Monsters

  • Leaf Cutter: Small, short-lived, eats Plants, produces little waste.
  • Fang Mouth: Medium, middling lifespan, eats Meat and dead monsters, produces some waste.
  • Jewel Eater: Large, long living, eats Crystals, produces a lot of waste.

Mechanics & Indicators

  • Well-fed monsters live longer; starving monsters live shorter.
  • Starving monsters will move to another biome if there's food there.
  • Grayed out monsters are sleeping; blacked out monsters are dead.
  • Red bars below biomes indicate unused resources. Biomes need resources to spawn anything.
  • Some parameters will create a stable, dynamic system; others will eventually degenerate.
  • Speed things up or slow things down with the Time Scale slider.

nice! pretty fun to create systems with a lot of action in them -- i spawned leaf cutters in every biome and watched as they flocked en masse to the one biome with plants haha. pretty mesmerizing! i think games with such little player "control" are pretty amazing, and a sphere of design i feel i have no talent in haha. exciting to see things exploring that space, and doing a lot of exciting things with it. nice game! :)
