Postmortem

My intention for this project was to take from the technical learnings of my previous prototype and build on the idea of representing music through traversable sculpture. I didn't write any new music since the earlier prototype and instead focused on creating a more polished environment to match the music.

Over all, I think this project was a technical success. I was able to work out some issues with how I was syncing game events to music, and I learned a bit about implementing moving platforms in Unity.

In terms of design, however, I think there's a lot of room for improvement. Right now the progression both as a game and as a musical experience feels a bit aimless and does really allow the player to explore with intention. I'd like to iterate further on the music - both the actual composition and how they fit together. Right now the progression is strictly additive and the only complexity is in how musical fragments exclude one another, which at the moment is only a limitation to the player rather than an opportunity for play. I'd like to experiment with more a directed spatial structure and a progression that involves both adding and removing parts of the music.
